Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).
Our God is Jehovah Shalom, our personal present-tense peace. One of the purposes of the life of Christ is to give us peace of God and peace with God. When Jesus arrived in history, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men (Luke 2:13-14). Our personal present-tense peace planned for our personal peace.
Peace is promised to us and fully paid for. When Jesus was exchanging time for eternity He said, “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you (John 14:27).
When Christ went to the cross, He fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah and paid for our peace: “The chastisement of our peace was on Him” (Isaiah 53:5). The wonderful Holy Spirit instructs us in the writings of the Apostle Paul: Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace ((Ephesians 4:3). Plus, the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
When St. Peter was communicating the gospel to Cornelius’ entire house he said it best: The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all (Acts 10:36).
In the middle of the storms of life call on Jehovah Shalom, our personal present-tense peace. In the middle of trials, call on Jehovah Shalom who paid for our peace. In the middle of overwhelming circumstances call on the peace of God. This is one of the most amazing benefits of walking with God. Don’t forget and don’t wait. You can depend on your personal present-tense peace.
