Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new ( 2 Cor. 5:17).
We are in Christ Jesus since we gave our heart to Him. We asked Him to come into our lives and live with us and in us. The moment we asked Him to come into our hearts we were born again. We are saved from hell and a life on earth without hope. Our life is filled with newness and God’s love.
Think of Leonard Skinnard’s song “Free Bird.” It’s a great tune and I love the guitar solos and the entire groove. However, the premise of the entire song is essentially I will never change. If you are “in Christ,” your inner person is a new creation “and behold all things have been made new.” Changes took place on the inside. When God saves a “Free Bird” he becomes free and changes.
Think of a white board full of words with all of your mistakes. The mistakes are so plentiful that it covers the whole white board with words of your failures. So many that you can’t even see the white. When we are in Christ he erases the entire whiteboard squeaky clean.
I think of one of our church computers. It was made to run very well. Over the process of time viruses have slowed the computer down to the point where it locks up dozens of times per day. If I took it to a specialist to add more memory, it would only be a “band aid.” If I took it to the manufacturer and they took out all the old parts, hard drive, RAM, etc. and put in a whole new hard drive, RAM, etc. it would be new.
When a person is born in the earth he is born from his mother’s womb. When a person is born again his spirit is born new and alive unto God’s ways and His love plan. When a person is in Christ he gets a new heart. He is a new creation. He has become new. He still lives in the same body and has the same old emotions. If you were old and wrinkly before you got saved, you will be old and wrinkly after you get saved. If you are bald before you get saved, you will be bald after you get saved. But the one on the inside is a new person all together.
Let this concept sink deep into your heart of hearts. You are new and the old is gone. When it comes to making new habits and new friends you will have a really hard time if you think you are still the old you.
Meditate for five minutes on this lesson.
Journal one whole page. Tweet and post on Facebook an idea.
Pray this Prayer: Father, thank You for making me a new person. I worship You for recreating me into your newness. Help me live in the truth and see that all things are made new in my life. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
