Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever (Ps 136:1).
Henry Letterlie, professor of theology from the University of South Africa at Johannesburg said, “The foundation for all theology must be that God is good.”
We all go through good times and bad times. We all go through summer and winter. We all go through fun times and hard times. In fact, Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation“(John 16:33). This means you can’t avoid it. The belief that says if you have enough faith you will not go through hard times is totally unscriptural. The Apostle Peter said, “Count it not a strange thing when you go through the fiery trials of life” (1 Peter 4:12). Jesus’ half brother James wrote, “Count it all joy when you fall in to various trials, test, and temptations” (James 1:2).
In addition, if it is raining outside, God is still good. If it is windy outside, God is still good. If it is storming, icing, or snowing, God is still good. If you are in a blizzard, tornado, earthquake, or tsunami, God is still good. If you are in a fiery trial, a major test, or even the tribulation that Jesus talked about, God is still good. If you experience a loss of a close loved one or friend, God is still good. If you lose a child, parent, or spouse, God is still good. If you lose your job, God is still good. If you lose your house in a fire, earthquake or forclosure, God is still good. If you total your car or if it gets repossessed, God is still good. If you live on the streets or in a mansion on a hill, God is still good. If there are famines, wars, or rumors of wars, God is still good. Be of good cheer because God is good.
Jesus is our shepherd and He will bring us through it. Even if we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, He is with us and He is good.
Meditate for five minutes on this lesson.
Journal one whole page.
Pray this Prayer: Father, help me to know You are good regardless of my seasons of life. I recognize that night comes before day but You are always good. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
